<<Knowles and Hadcock, Medieval Religious Houses, p 436 has no indication
that
it was anything other than a secular college.>>
Yes, I've seen that, and it gave me much pause. Today's work has led me to
agree that the |augustinian label is wrong.
<< What is the original source
that suggests it was?>>
I have been trying to find my note of it, and cannot. Ain't that the way.
All I have found are Victorian references to it an Augustinian college, but
they gave no refs.
<< If it was a 'royal free chapel' used for rewarding
kings' servants, that might explain why there was money to spend on
dependent chapelries?>>
No: the money mainly went out of the Deanery and out of the county. The
status of the components of the Deanery is odd: there were three parishes, of
which st Levan was one, but it ts church was a dependent chapelry. Go figure.
<<Are you aware of the fifteenth-century register of admissions etc in
Cambridge University Library?>>
Yes, thanks!
