medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Due to being loath to clean out my e-mail, I found last year's posts for this week. Enjoy.

Subject: [M-R] saints of the day 14. May
medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Today (14. May) is the feast day of:
Matthias (1st cent.) According to the Book of Acts (1: 21-26),
Matthias was selected to replace Judas in the ranks of the apostles.
Legend tells that he preached in Judea, Cappadocia, and around the
Caspian Sea before being martyred in Colchis.
Pontius (d. c. 258) Legends tell that Pontius was a member of a
senatorial family who gave his wealth to the poor when his father
died and wen on to convert Emperor Philip the Arabian and his son.
After Philip's death, P fled to Gaul, but was arrested and beheaded
at Cimiez.
Carthach (Mochuda) (d. 637) Carthach, whose cult was rather
belatedly confirmed in 1903, was a native of Kerry (Ireland). He
became a disciple of St. Carthach the Elder, going on to be a hermit
and then to found a monastery at Rahan (Co. Offaly). A version of
the rule he wrote for the community is still extant. In the last
years of his life, C. and his community were driven from Rahan by the
local ruler, and went off to found Lismore.
Erembert (d. c. 672) Erembert became a monk at Fontenelle in c. 640,
and in c. 656 was appointed bishop of Toulouse. He resigned after 12
years due to ill health and spent the rest of his life back at
Fontenelle.
