spectrum disorders, by Judith Barnard, Virginia Harvey, Aidan Prior and
David Potter
This report examines the situation for adults with autism and Asperger
syndrome, based on a large survey of NAS members and their families. It
highlights the fact that the majority of people on the autistic spectrum
have been excluded from services in England as a result of the recent
Learning Disability Strategy because they are of average or above average
intelligence.
This report was produced for Autism Awareness Week 2001. See link:-

NAS( ), Autism: The Demand for Advocacy:-
This report published by The National Autistic Society (NAS) in August 2003
highlights that not only are adults with autistic spectrum disorders often
excluded from services, but so many of them also struggle to access advocacy
support which could help them. The NAS wants to see better availability and
access to independent advocacy services that can help adults with autistic
spectrum disorders obtain the services they need. The NAS is now starting a
three-year initiative to help independent advocacy organisations become more
responsive to the needs of people with autism See link:-
