It isn't betjeman's politics _outside_ the poem which bear down, the poem is
an expression - if a wry one - of pure hatred for the (molecular) masses as
perceived from an illusory outside (an illusory privileged middle, one of
"good taste") - As such, if one can read it coolly, it is not without a
fascination, as say Swift's virulent anti-women poems are, as a clear
expression of that particular mindset.
