Today's Guardian carries an obituary of Dr Marcus Merriman, 'American
historian of the age of Mary Queen of Scots - and a dramatic lecturer', from
the Department of History, University of Lancaster, who died on 23rd March:

It mentioned that 'he published on map-making'.
The Independent carried an obituary on 5 April, but this has to be
subscribed for:

Dr Merriman's entry in 'Who's Who in the History of Cartography' (1998)
listed his interests as:
Mapping the Anglo-Scottish frontier, 16th century
Italian 'engineers' in Britain, 16th century
The first ordnance survey?: Scotland in 1549
Plattes and the evolution of the 'blueprint'
I do not have a list of his publications. One, though, can be mentioned:
'Italian military engineers in Britain in the 1540s', in Sarah Tyacke (ed.)
English Map-Making 1500-1650 (British Library, 1983) pp.57-67.
