Dear all,
The April edition of NRICH is now live at www.nrich.maths.org.
In April, August and December the site contains two extra open-ended,
investigative challenges and this month these are Jomista Mat
(<http://nrich.maths.org/public/viewer.php?obj_id=4904>) and Tables Without
Tens (<http://nrich.maths.org/public/viewer.php?obj_id=4905>). To find
them, follow these links or select "This month" in the left-hand menu on
the website. We hope these challenges will inspire a sense of enquiry
amongst students and that they will generate lots of classroom discussion.
As in previous months, we have a new Sudoku to tantalise you and your
pupils: Product Sudoku
(<http://nrich.maths.org/public/viewer.php?obj_id=4903>). This time, the
puzzle can be solved with the help of the numbers in the top parts of
certain squares which are the products of the digits in all the squares
horizontally and vertically adjacent to that square. Confused? Don't
worry, you will get the idea very quickly. Good luck!
As usual, solutions to last month's problems will appear at the beginning
of May.
Those of you who teach at Primary level my be interested in the one-day
mathematics conferences, "Teaching for Excellence and Enjoyment", which are
being organised by The Mathematical Association next term. There are three
venues:
Sheffield on May 25th
Leicester on June 13th
London on June 14th
Each conference contains a choice of workshop sessions led by Lynne McClure
and Liz Pumfrey. Teachers will leave with ideas and resource materials that
will be of direct benefit to their teaching. For more information and
details of how to book a place, please see the MA website at
<http://www.m-a.org.uk/association/organisation/committees/professional_dev
elopment_committee/primary_mathematics_conference/index.html>.
With best wishes from The NRICH Team.
