If it were up to me, I'd be tempted to offload the stone somewhere near the Place
Saint-Andre, just behind the cathedral. Not only is the distance to the cathedral
shorter, but the scarp is steep enough there that John's suggestion of winching it up,
perhaps on a semi-permanent wooden crane -- or perhaps even on some kind of
ramp -- would be possible. I might even consider locating the masons' lodge at the
foot of the escarpment, for efficiency's sake.
