We were talking about cathedrals, and these tended not to be used for such
'corporate' purposes - people did that in their own parish churches.
Rochester is anomalous - the Lady Chapel is very late (16th century), and in
a very odd position. It is fairly obvious to me that the "original" Lady
Chapel was the eastern chapel of the crypt (underneath the aisleless
presbytery).
