medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Yesterday's 'Life of the Day' from the Oxford Dictionary of national
Biography was Ethelred II (the Unready, c.966x8-1016). Although not
primarily a religious figure, his biography includes lots of potential
interest on religious matters: contemporary saints, patronage and
exploitation of the Church and religious houses, conversion of Viking kings,
the nature of marriage, expiation for sin, translation of relics,
scholarship, sermons, hagiography, prophecy (as you will note - in no
particular order!)
To find the life, follow the links listed below and you will reach today's
page and be able to navigate through the last week's lives (incl. Daniel
Defoe).
