Dear Friends of Wisdom,
Please forgive my recent silence. Easter intervened, and then my computer
went out of action. I have however consulted the Head of Media Relations,
University College London, and his advice is, as a first step, to get
something published about "Friends of Wisdom", and then send out a Press
Release. Failing that, we should offer a "world exclusive" to a newspaper
or journal about the formation of "Friends of Wisdom". I have written a
piece about Friends of Wisdom which I have attached to this email. In it, I
distinguish between the views and aspirations of all of us, and those that
are mine. I hope this meets with general approval. It seems to me to be a
good way for us to proceed in future. We should all be free in the future
to publish pieces in which we allude to our common views, but also say what
we individually believe in. Nothing is worse than committee-speak.
If there are no objections, I will go ahead with trying to get something
published about "Friends of Wisdom", beginning with The Guardian and The
Times Higher Education Supplement. The latter has already been in touch
with me about "Friends of Wisdom".
Best wishes,
Nick Maxwell
