Thoth is often referred to in Egyptian symbolism as 'eightfold' -
ie in Tales of 'Setna and the Book of Thoth', ie:
Thoth, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great'
which is a bit unweldy so maybe it's shortened to thrice ; )
'Eight-town' in Egypt is especially sacred to Thoth.
Mercury is associated with Hermes/Thoth presumably in the Greco-Roman
In Egyptian astronomical mythos - Mercury is the planet of Seth -
sometimes seen as the father of Thoth.
1. The name is spelled in Hebrew: Th-Ph-Th-R-Th-R-Th
2. Gematria numbers thus add to 400+80+400+200+400+200+400 = 2080
3. If you add all the numbers between 1 and 64 (8^2), you get 2080
4. Agrippa assigns Thaphthartharath to Mercury, which gets the magic
square of 8 (all numbers from 1 to 64 in an 8x8 square such that all
colums, rows, and diagonals get the same number)
