The message below from the (British) national Archives Awareness Campaign may seem to be gobbledegook; but it represents an opportunity for all of us to raise awareness of the past and future of therapeutic community. Perhaps ATC/EFTC/PETT TC-OF et al ought to designate this the "Therapeutic Community Year of the Archives", as a hook on which to tie into the National Archives Awareness Campaign. Local TC's could make a feature of their archives in relation to the local community, and seek advice from their local Records Offices on handling and storage, having the Archive Awareness Campaign as an Intro; and it would give the organisations (ATC, EFTC / PETT etc.) a hook on which to write to National and Regional Archives, just asking where therapeutic communities stand in their collections policies, or what material relating to therapeutic communities they might have already in their collections. My guess is that all of this would help to meet at least some of what the ATC Task Force was aiming for, in raising awareness and understanding.

Dear All,

I sent an email out recently regarding the Archive Awareness Campaign theme for 2006 - Neighbourhoods and Woods. The main period of the campaign in 2006 will be September - November and it would be great if we could build on the past three years of Archive Awareness with even more events and publicity. I will post more on this in the near future.

This email is primarily to let you know the theme for AAC in 2007.... Freedom and Liberty. The theme ties in with the bicentenary of the abolition of the British trans-Atlantic slave trade but should also enable events/ publicity on other topics such as citizenship, personal liberties, political and protest etc. It ties in with a number of other anniversaries as well e.g., the 60th anniversary of the partition of India. I will post more guidance on this shortly but wanted to give you as much notice as possible of both themes for 2006-2007.

The themes have been developed at the last two AAC supporters meetings, held in May and November 2005 - open to anyone in the archive sector. Please look out for information on the next supporters meeting which will be posted here soon.
