And it's worse than that because the API to rec1_find_file says that it
can work with multiple wilde card specifications so that "*.sdf *.fits"
is allowed to match both SDF and FITS extensions. This means taht
fundamentally we need a new API....(although the "open a single HDS file"
part of HDS could be made to use something that doesn't allow multiple
file specs.)
