To Pull You Closer
A poem squeezes
your last breath
numb body, eyes
senseless...
Behind them
the colors of youth
Pink stones skimming
the surface of neon pools
I tie a string to your heart
try to pull you closer
tug too hard
the string snaps
You
fall back, even further
I said, "I love you."
You said, "I know.
I know."
