yes, you're right Dave - but all of his translations are on this
kitsch-amusing border! He is indeed the MacG of translation - and we do read
MacG still because it's just SO over the top...
The reason i think is that Fitz's gaudy over the top ness quite accurately
mimics the original, where a clunking, predictable rhyme is something to be
celebrated, as we anticipate its arrival - see various works of medieval
Arabic and Persian literary criticism. Innovation or originality are alien
ideas in some of these views.
