Well, my 25 year old daughter, a Psych Doc Candidate just got an internship
at a Veterans Administration hospital. With various kinds of therapies she
will be working with Vietnam, Iraq I, and Iraq II soldiers, including Iraq
II women soldiers. Men and women - mental and physical victims of state
sanctioned violence.
Fortunately, to my knowledge, she has never been physically abused, quite
possibly, psychologically so, as is true of probably most women, and maybe a
smaller percentage of men - tho male on male violence - mental and physical
is also huge.
I am happy for my daughter that on some level as a woman she has come a long
way - yet, much as in SB's account - professionally she will be coping with
the victims of violence. The same wheel keeps turning - it seems we can only
change our position in how we relate to its consequences, caring instead of
hurting.
