I don't have an exact date for the engine, best guess c1870. I doubt if the
engine was used after the mine closed but the chimney may have been used byt
the "power house" which is the brick building now used as garrage. The area
was used then as part of the Ganister quarry.
In 1879 I have the following reference, I wouold be interested if anyone
can give me any thoughts on it.
Cost of engine £6,000
Cost of drawing engine £275

Other references to engines at the mines are the following,
Wellan Vol 2. York and the North Riding in 1859 says that there were 1
condensing engines, one high pressure at Keld Heads.
One of these would be at Cobscar but I cannot be sure where the other was.
The Cobscar engine was probably an early one, then a 12 horse condensing
engine was bought from Hathorn & Davy of Leeds in 1856 along with a 20R boiler,
pump & beam and a capstain extra in Dec 1856
