medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Greetings all!
Bits and pieces of archaeological and anecdotal evidence suggests to me
that the clergy - especially perhaps at higher levels - were buried in
vestments or some sort, perhaps with insignia of their status (croziers
etc.) with them.
I was about to make (in print) a casual statement to the effect that
clerics
"were usually buried in their vestments" - and suddenly realized that
apart from
the aforementioned odds and ends, I really had no idea whether this was
the
case or not. Can anyone with more knowledge of the subject than I have
enlighten
me?
Meg
