Computer Applications and Quantitative Methods in Archaeology
Meeting of the UK Chapter
Archaeology, University of Southampton
March 30th and 31st 2006
Final call for papers

The CAA UK chapter is intended as a forum for research in the area of archaeological computing and quantitative methods. Based at the University of Southampton and supported by EPOCH, the chapter meeting aims to facilitate exchange of ideas between researchers and cultural resource managers, and is particularly focussed on the presentation of new and innovative research areas. The meeting organisers are also particularly keen to encourage new researchers to present their work for the first time and we are now able to offer bursaries for student participants.
The meeting will be divided into two sections:
(1) Thursday March 30th - Heritage Management and Public Presentation
(2) Friday March 31st 		- Research Computation
Twenty minute papers and poster presentations are invited on any area of archaeological computing, but particularly within the following suggested themes:

* Spatial technologies and methods: computational approaches to space including simulation, spatial modelling, spatial analysis, and spatial theory;
* Visualisation, research and the media: three-dimensional computing techniques for interpreting and presenting archaeological data;
* Data quality, standards and access: initiatives for improving the coverage and quality of cultural databases, and for widening access to electronic resources;
* Maritime archaeology and computing: geophysical, modelling, recording and interpretative approaches to maritime questions;
* Innovative computing and statistical techniques in ceramics, lithic analysis, osteoarchaeology, dating and other archaeological sciences;
* Museology and public presentation: technical and non-technical research relating to multimedia and its impact on contemporary heritage presentations.

Please indicate for which section and theme you would like the abstract to be considered.
Following the success of CAA UK 2005, and an interest expressed in publishing both conventional proceedings and collaboratively written papers based on broad themes, we aim to publish both conferences together. Further details will be available during the coming months.
