Hi All,
I think what would be more useful would be a system that monitors and reports on a students performance regarding interactive assessments
For example:
How many questions the student got right
Which questions the student got wrong
What was the average score for the class for each question
This information would also be very useful to monitor question design, if a question is misunderstood or cannot be interpreted or a low score across the class/group were to result, then this may indicate that the task/question is inappropriate.
At the end of the day I believe information/ feedback on a students performance related to an assessment is more important than how many times a student visits a site.
The student visited the site 5 times?................what does that tell you about their learning?

Subject: [VLES] Tracking of student activity in VLEs and e-learning tools
We here at Oxfords Uni are just starting a JISC project (TRECX) which will
deal with tracking activity within e-learning tools (such as VLE's, Forums,
Chat rooms, PDP systems, wikis, assessment systems, repositories) and are
very interested to know what sort of information tutors (or sysadmins) would
like to see about their students and / or resources (Data Prot issues
aside!).
The sort of things we are talking about are
- user X visited resource Y at 10:53 on 10/02/2006
- user X posted message on Forum Y at ........
- user X entered chat room Y at .....
- user X posted a message in chat room Y at ......
- user X read message posted by user Z in forum Y at ......
- resource A was updated at ......
- resource A became available at ........
- resource A was deleted at .......
- user X created a new PDR (id = 25) at ........
- user X added to wiki page Y at .......
- user X took assessment Y at .........
And so on.
We would *really* appreciate any comments / requirements etc for such a
system. Nothing fancy, a couple of sentences to describe the scenario would
be fine. We will 'publish' any postings in our wiki so please let us know if
you don't want your text used or if you would rather the text did not have
your name next to it!
The resultant software will be fully open source and available to all - if
anybody else wants to get involved then let us know.
We will be setting up a project website and wiki over the next week and I'll
try to remember to post the URLs to this list lest anybody wants a snoop.
