RESEARCH ASSOCIATE
Applications are invited for the post of Research Associate in the School of
Computer Science from individuals with research experience in the area of
distributed and/or Grid computing. You will play a leading research role in
the EPSRC-funded project entitled Development of Monte Carlo Techniques for
the Verification of Conformal Radiotherapy Using the UK e-Science Grid. This
project is led by Professor DW Walker, in collaboration with Dr DG Lewis of
the School of Medicine and Velindre Hospital, Cardiff, and will develop
distributed, service-oriented software to support the use of Monte Carlo
simulation techniques in planning conformal radiotherapy treatment for
cancer patients. Particular areas of interest are the development of web
services from existing software; the parallelization of simulation code;
and, the development of a portal interface to the underlying software and
data. Your tasks will include software design, implementation, and
evaluation; liaising with project partners, and other members of the
research community; and, presenting the results of the research at
conferences and in journal papers. A good track record of research in
distributed and/or Grid computing is essential. Experience with the
development of web portals would be an advantage. Experience in the design
and use of Web services would also be an advantage. This position will
involve domestic and some international travel.
You should have, or expect to soon obtain, a PhD in Computer Science or
related discipline, or have other relevant research experience.
This post is fixed-term for 3 years
Salary: £20044 - £30002 per annum.
