Iggy now occurs in the RM on 17. October, where he shares a day (but
not his Memorial) with his successor in the see of Antioch, saint
Heron. This state of affairs is said to accord with the 1969
re-arrangement of the Roman Calendar; it's not clear what the rationale
may have been for this particular change.
[I believe that the armament in question was a later development and
that its application at Antioch was the work of one Friedrich von Essen
(genannt Krupp), a companion in arms of Barbarossa's on the Third
Crusade who after the debacle of the Salef continued on to Syria and
took part in the siege. Despite its honored place in the Book of
Armaments, this device appears to have had little effect on the actual
course of events at Antioch. Certainly Monachus of Florence, who lived
through the entire siege and who is not reticent in recording the failed
strategems of his fellow crusaders, has naught to say of it.]
Best,
John Dillon
