medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Today (24. February) is the feast day of:
Ethelbert of Kent (d. 616) In 597 Ethelbert enjoyed an influx of
missionaries---St. Augustine and co. He received them cautiously,
but in time converted and helped the missionaries.
Robert of Arbrissel (blessed) (d. 1117) Robert was a Breton who got
a good education and became vicar of the bishop of Rennes. In time
he became a hermit---and started doing some serious reform preaching.
In 1099 he founded Fontevrault to house the women disciples he
attracted.
Constantius of Fabriano (blessed) (d. 1481) The Dominican
Constantius was famous for his holiness. He was also a reformer and
biblical scholar. When he died, he received a public funeral, and
the town council declared his death a "public calamity." C's cult
was confirmed in 1821.
