Another reference that is worth a look, especially since it is an
Australian text, is Alex Carey's "Taking the Risk out of Democracy".
University of NSW Press, 1995 - reprinted by Univ of Illinois Press 1997.
The last three chapters are on Human relations, Industrial Psychology and
the Hawthorne studies. A bit dated now maybe, but a brilliant example of
ideological unmasking - the earlier chapters deal with the corporate
campaign to manipulate public opinion.
Kurt Danziger's Constructing the Subject has interesting material on the
initial marketing of psychology as purveyor of general laws to business.
