Hi Dan,
>>Plus, bringing Enochian - a "language" in which meanings for particular
phrases are already defined - lends another level of complexity here.
There's a difference between speaking words which one does not know, and
speaking words that one knows but does not normally use...<<
People *say* they know what Enochian words mean, but Enochian isn't a real
language, it was made up by Edward Kelly and John Dee. the only person who
ever said that it "had its own grammar and syntax" was Aleister Crowley. No
non-occult-affiliated academics have ever taken it seriously. I don't see
that the purported Enochian name for a Water elemental, "Empeh Arsel Gaiol",
used in the Golden Dawn Greater Ritual of the Pentagram, for example, is
particularly less a type of "magical word" - in the voces mysticae sense -
than something that purports to be a [secret] name of the goddess Aphrodite,
"ON PAOCHOI", found on a gold lamella from Thessaloniki.
