DC-2006 will be held at the University of Colima in Manzanillo, Colima,
Mexico, 3-6 October 2006. The theme of the conference is of particular
interest to participants on the DC-Education list--"Metadata for
Knowledge and Learning". The URL for the conference site is as follows:
http://dc2006.ucol.mx/. From the Call for Papers:
"This theme promises to be of particular interest to several distinct
communities of practice:
--Users of metadata standards relevant to e-learning, notably Dublin
Core and Learning Object Metadata (LOM).
--Creators of institutional repositories in cultural memory institutions
such as universities, museums, and libraries, especially with regard to
the "open access" movement.
--Builders of intranet repositories and training environments in
corporations and government agencies.
--Users of related knowledge organization systems, such as thesauri,
subject classifications, and corporate taxonomies."
As co-Chair of DC-Ed, I'd like to encourage DC-Ed members to consider
contributing to the conference proceedings by sharing their research
finds and their experience through either a short (2-4 pages) or a long
(8-10 pages) paper. THE DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS IS 15 APRIL 2006. It
seems to me that DC-2006 in sunny Mexico provides an excellent venue for
us to share: (1) our experience over the past decade with the role of
metadata in the development of the e-learning environment; and (2) our
vision(s) of where we are headed or should be headed.
Both Diane Hillmann and I as co-Chairs of DC-Ed would appreciate hearing
here on the list what the education metadata community would like to see
happen at DC-2006 in terms of special sessions/topics. We believe this
will be the most significant DC-Ed conference to date for the education
metadata community.
