Braithwaite Mine, Coverdale.
Backhouse 1906.
shows a length of flat rods from a water wheel rising up the hill to the
shaft top. The depth from the shaft top to the level was 45.7m (25Fm),
distance to the shaft was about 550m. The water was pumped from below the
level, what depth is not known.
Agents from Weardale were brought down to the mine in the 1820's and there
remained a conection with Weardale & ALston for some years. Craigs were
agents from Weardale. Little from Alson. Bell from Alston was mine owner at
one time and Wrigley from Weardale.
I'm still not sure what date the flat rods were put in, I gues that that
the level wasn't driven until the 1820's
