I can't remember the circumstances but I was speaking to the person in question a little while ago. His reasoning was that the headframe was in very poor condition and that the site was used by too many people for it to be safe. A lot of off-roaders use this area and I know that a lot of damage has been done to the surface of the nearby Wheal Fortune, part of which I recommended for Scheduling a couple of years ago. I presume that he was unwilling or unable to pay for the necessary work for the headframe to be made safe and as the structure wasn't listed (not that that would be a guarantee) it went.

Re Headframes, I understand the headframe at Mount Wellington has now been
demolished, despite earlier assurances that the owner intended to preserves
it. The site has been subject to various planning issues in the last few
years.
Hopefully list members in West Cornwall can give more details regarding
efforts to save this.
Hopefully this example will not be followed at Grove Rake!
