Dear Tim/ Dear All
I have just checked the bera website again - it's the
keynote (ie major international speakers deadline)
that has passed - I know we are going to be mighty
good but not quite that league?
Thanks VERY much Tim - for the alert
Sarah
Keynote Symposia Format
Submissions for Keynote Syposia closed on 6th January
2006.
The ‘Keynote Symposia’ are a special feature of the
BERA conf erence. At Warwick there will be six 90
minute symposia; three on Thursday lunchtime and three
on Friday. In order to ensure that the quality of
these sessions is high and that they are likely to
warrant this privileged position in the programme,
there will be a rigorous refereeing process. You may
submit only one proposal where you are the lead
presenter. If your symposium is not one of the six
chosen it will automatically be entered into the main
conference review process.
If you wish to be considered for a Keynote Symposium
you should submit a proposal electronically through
the BERA website www.bera.ac.uk. The proposal should
include an overview of (maximum) 400 words, together
with the title of the symposium and the names and
affiliations of the convenor and discussant (where
appropriate). The symposium should normally comprise 3
or 4 individual papers (at most 6), each submitted
with an abstract of (maximum) 600 words, together with
title, author(s) and affiliation(s). In addition
(maximum) 600 words should be submitted explaining the
importance of the research addressed by the symposium
(e.g. its timeliness, contribution to knowledge etc.-
see selection criteria below).
Final date for submission was Friday 6 January 2006.
Each proposal will be anonymously reviewed by two
members of BERA Council. The selection will be based
on a combination of the following criteria (it is NOT
expected that submissions will fulfil all criteria):
• The research is of high quality.
• The research findings offer new knowledge/insights
by making a theoretical or empirical contribution to
the field.
• The research is timely in that it has currency in
the currently changing educational context.
• The research has an interesting and sound
methodological basis; it may for example, combine
different research methods or use innovative research
instruments.
• The research has the potential to have a
demonstrable impact on policy and/or practice.
• The research has national and international
significance, or makes sound international
comparisons.
• The research is well underway and has at least
interim results to report.
The submissions will be rated against the 7 criteria
on a 5 point scale: excellent (5), good (4),
satisfactory (3), weak (2), poor (1).
Authors will receive numerical feedback and brief
comments. The final selection will be made by the
Conference Committee in order to ensure an even spread
and good balance of presentations. The corresponding
author will be contacted with the decision before the
20th of January 2006, the submission deadline for the
main conference.
