ST GEORGE’S, UNIVERSITY OF LONDON
Division of Community Health Sciences
LECTURER AND SENIOR LECTURER POSTS IN MEDICAL STATISTICS, RESEARCH
METHODS, EPIDEMIOLOGY AND BIOMEDICAL INFORMATICS
4 posts (3 full-time, 1 half-time)
St George’s, University of London, is entering a new and exciting period
of development. As part of its commitment to maintaining proven
excellence in education and research, SGUL is investing in a range of
new posts which will support and sustain the institution in its
strategic development over the next decade and beyond.
The first area for development is Community Health Sciences. Each post
will comprise a combination of teaching responsibilities and research
opportunities in one of the four areas of research strength within the
division: cardiovascular epidemiology (Professor Peter Whincup),
respiratory & environmental epidemiology (Professor Ross Anderson),
lifecourse & genetic epidemiology (Professor David Strachan), and
primary care epidemiology (Professor Derek Cook), or in the emerging new
area of biomedical informatics (Dr Simon de Lusignan). One or more of
the full-time posts may be configured as a combination of part-time
appointments.
Ref: 500/06 - Senior Lecturer in Medical Statistics. The successful
applicant will be expected to co-ordinate, develop and contribute to the
undergraduate MBBS course in research & critical skills and to develop
his or her own epidemiological research programme. We are seeking
postdoctoral candidates with sufficient breadth of experience,
methodological insight and interpersonal skills to provide disciplinary
leadership to the medical statisticians throughout St George’s.
Ref: 501/06 - Lecturer in Research Methods (half-time). The successful
applicant will be expected to develop and deliver postgraduate teaching
in research methods. We are seeking candidates with a higher degree in a
relevant discipline and some experience of health services research,
preferably applying qualitative methods.
Ref: 502/06 - Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Epidemiology. This post
will combine responsibilities for undergraduate (MBBS) and postgraduate
(MSc) teaching in epidemiology & public health, with opportunities to
develop an independent research programme in one of the four
epidemiological themes. Applications are invited from both non-clinical
epidemiologists and medically qualified applicants below Consultant
level. We are seeking candidates with a higher degree in epidemiology or
a related discipline and a strong track-record of research that
complements existing interests within the division.
Ref: 503/06 - Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Biomedical Informatics.
This post has been created in support of a new BSc/MSci course in
Biomedical Informatics, being developed in collaboration with Kingston
University and Royal Holloway, University of London. The post holder
will contribute to the development and teaching of the UK’s first
Biomedical Informatics degree course (www.sgul.ac.uk/informatics/), and
will be expected to develop research collaborations in biomedical
informatics or primary care epidemiology.
Appointments for each post will be made on the Lecturer scale (salary
