Hi Simon,
In my experience everyone involved in some particular kind of repository
thinks that they have "special and different" needs (and they all do, of
course).. but in fact there are usually a few other repository domains
that can share investigations in these special areas. For instance, the
JISC Digital Repositories Programme includes a project on developing a
cross-institutional repository for "high-stakes assessment items" for
medical education (UKCDR); medical education in general has issues with
things like case material and other materials based on real patients
(perhaps to be shared via repositories of teaching materials) being
sensitive or confidential, just to give you two examples. The Data
Protection Act shouldn't be ignored by anyone (in the UK) I shouldn't think!
Of course eportfolios and repositories and where they cross over
(eportfolios as a kind of repository?) is a very interesting area and
it's great to see you taking part on this list! I guess the e-Framework
will be hoping to eventually map how these two areas fit together or
even cross over.. something that needs to be kept in mind by those
working on the repositories contribution to the e-Framework (which
includes the JISC Digital Repositories Support Team and CETIS/UKOLN).
Right I promised I'd keep my head down for the rest of the day-
switching off email now!
Best
Sarah
