Call for Applicants
addressed to the Russian Scientific Community
Research Grant
1. The Chair InBev-Baillet Latour of the K.U. Leuven, created in
March 2000, aims to encourage and support multidisciplinary research on the
relations between the Russian Federation and the European Union (see the
website of the Chair at the Institute for International and European Policy:
http://www.iieb.be/ibl)
2. The Chair InBev-Baillet Latour offers a research scholarship to a
Russian researcher. The research in the framework of this scholarship is to
be conducted in Belgium during the academic year 2006-2007 (from October
2006 until June 2007).
3. The research grant can be awarded to:
- A Russian student who intends to complete and defend his/her
kandidatskaya dissertatsiya during the academic year 2005-2006.
- A Russian student who has already obtained the degree of kandidat
nauk and wants to continue his/her research on the topic.
- A Russian student who has already started Ph.D. research outside
Russia.
4. Active knowledge of English is a condition for obtaining the
grant. Preference will be given to an applicant under the age of 30 (at the
date of submission of the application)
5. The grant is aimed at supporting research in human sciences
on the theme of the Chair, being the relations between the Russian
Federation and the European Union.
6. Applications must be submitted before March 31, 2006. The
applicant’s dossier should include the following documents:
- a comprehensive curriculum vitae with photo
- a cover letter specifying the candidate’s interest in the grant
- a research project containing a description of the research topic
and the methodology
- a letter of recommendation from the supervisor(s) of the research

7. The evaluation criteria are:
- The scientific qualities of the applicant
- The contents of the proposed research project
- The use that the applicant will make of the knowledge that he/she
will obtain during the stay at the K.U.Leuven
- The applicant’s proficiency in English
8. The researcher will have the necessary infrastructure to his/her
disposal at the Institute for European and International Policy of the KU
Leuven. The grants also includes a monthly stipend, adapted to the costs of
living in Belgium. The Chair will cover a return trip between Russia and
Belgium and one additional return trip during the academic year.
9. By accepting the research grant, the researcher commits him/herself
to:
- Participate in and contribute to the activities of the Chair
InBev-Baillet Latour;
- Be part of the research group Central and Eastern Europe of the
Institute of European and International Policy;
- Conduct his/her research under scientific guidance of the
director of the Chair InBev-Baillet Latour at the K.U. Leuven;
- Publish at least two papers in the Chair InBev-Baillet Latour
Working Paper Series;
- Mention the research scholarship in all publications concerning
the research resulting from the grant;
- Present the developments in his/her research at the beginning and
at the end of the stay by means of a lecture or a research seminar.
10. A similar grant is granted by the Chair InBev-Baillet Latour at the
Institut d’études européennes of the UCL in Louvain-la-Neuve (Belgium). The
two grants cannot be claimed simultaneously.
