FACULTY OF ENVIRONMENT
INSTITUTE FOR TRANSPORT STUDIES (ITS)
INSTITUTE RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPS
Closing date 31 March 2006
Job Reference 315019
ITS is seeking to enhance significantly its existing research capabilities
by making available two, four-year Institute Research Fellowships.
Applications are now sought from dynamic individuals with an excellent
record of research achievement and also the potential to develop and lead
an outstanding research programme in ITS and thus make a major
contribution to the research profile of ITS and the university.
The person appointed will be expected to develop their own research, to
collaborate with colleagues in ITS and elsewhere in the University and to
take advantage of funding opportunities to build up a research team in
their area of interest. There will also be opportunities for teaching at
both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and for supervision of
research students, particularly in the late stages of the Research
Fellowship. Full support for career development will be provided.
With either a PhD, higher degree or equivalent experience in a transport
related discipline, applicants should be able to demonstrate originality
and innovation in their research as well as the potential to develop a
high quality record of publication and other output. In return, the
Fellows will be funded for up to 50% for the four years to pursue their
research interests, with the remainder funded from other projects or
teaching activities according to the individual’s expertise.
Appointments to commence not later than 1 October 2006 and will normally
lead to a permanent academic or research appointment after the four
years. Research Grade IA or RII for exceptionally qualified candidates
(£20,044 – £31274pa). The university is introducing a new reward
framework which will facilitate the recruitment, retention and motivation
of world class staff.
