DISC resources online
Over the past two years the DISC (Delivering Inclusion in Science
Communication) project has been working to highlight and clarify the
challenges and barriers faced by both BME (black and minority ethnic)
groups and science communicators in delivering greater inclusion of
ethnic minorities in science communication. Residential courses last
September brought the two groups together to facilitate the creation of
sustainable and empowering networks between the groups, by engaging them
in dialogue and joint working.
There are two new web resources online on the DISC portal that we'd like
to highlight:
* Representations of science - images and depictions of BMEs in science
* Market Intelligence: a guide to working with BME Communities on
science communication activities
In brief, the web resources highlight:
- books, DVDs and websites that contain positive images of BMEs
- educational and curriculum support materials
- statistical overview of ethnic minorities involved in SET
To view the resources please visit http://www.ishangohouse.com/DISC
The resources are in draft and we are keen to hear feedback from science
communicators. There is a feedback form on the webpage for any comments.
DISC is creating sustainable partnerships between ethnic minority groups
and the science communication community, and is a national initiative of
the BA (British Association for the Advancement of Science) and the
African-Caribbean Network for Science & Technology (ACNST).
