Matthew Boulton College has long been a familiar landmark on the Birmingham
skyline. But in July last year it moved to a brand-new home in Eastside -
the area round Millennium Point - which is rapidly becoming a vibrant
learning quarter. This FREE half-day visit, organised by Aslib Midlands

building and the Learning Resource Centre.
The new College, which cost nearly £40 million, provides stunning premises
to house both existing and developing business. It is the region's largest
further education development and one of the biggest in Britain.
The College offers a wide range of courses. It has achieved the ISO 9001
quality standard, received the Investors in People Award, and won the Beacon
Award for Health Care programmes. It is a Centre of Vocational Excellence
(CoVE) and specialises in the following areas:
Print Media & Graphics
Vocational Medical Sciences
Business and Professional Services
The Learning Resource Centre occupies the 3rd floor with the I.T. Access
Area and Student Services. Completely refurbished by library furnishers
Point 8, the Learning Resource Centre offers over 25,000 books, printed
journals & periodicals, numerous online databases, CD-ROMs, printed
newspapers, dissertations etc. The Centre seats 75 students for general &
group study and a further 75 seats for individual study.
During the visit you will hear from Paul Dolman, Head of Learning Resources,
about the challenges and opportunities in planning the new Learning
Resources Centre, as well as gaining an insight into how the Centre operates
now. You will also be able to hear from Clive Hill, the Vice-Principal, who
was in charge of the building project. Tea and coffee will be available.
