A summer opportunity do you want to work on an exciting new project Our
Brick Lane
Eastside Community Heritage is seeking to employ an enthusiastic historian
with experience of writing educational resources for key stage 3 and 4. The
resources must focus on the history of Brick Lane (in Tower Hamlets) and its
present and past communities, a historical shared heritage which also needs
to include cultural and faith differences between two faiths i.e. the
former Jewish community and the present Muslim community. The educational
resources will also need to accompany and inform the project as detailed
below. We envisage this will be a 8 - 10 day project and will work closely
with the project coordinator. The budget is £1000.00 please contact Judith
Garfield or Sam Lawlor on 0208519 1827 for further information. Closing date
for tenders 28th July 2006, interviews Tuesday 1st August or Wednesday 2nd
August
Our Brick Lane
The project will train young people (14-18) to record Oral History
interviews about life in Brick Lane, as well as running documentary film
making workshops about the area, and offering a series of educational talks
and visits. The project is inter-faith and inter-generational, so local
young people will interview elder members of the former Jewish Community, as
well as current residents who have been in the area since the 1960s.
