MUSE Autumn School 2006 : Magisterial Classes on Access Technologies
19 October 2006 - 20 October 2006 Bilbao, SpainThe Telecom world is
moving very fast, with wireless and wireline networks converging to
provide end to end solutions. This new landscape triggers a revision of
networking technologies as well as the appearance of new techniques and
actors. By means of the MUSE Season Schools, the new knowledge produced
within the project is shared with the public. The objective is to offer
R&D professionals in telecommunications and students the opportunity to
get from key researchers in Europe the latest state of play in this
field. MUSE is a large integrated R&D project on Broadband Access.
Within the 6th Framework Programme, MUSE contributes to the strategic
objective "Broadband for All" of the Information Society Technologies
(IST) programme and it is partially funded by the European Commission.

aims to stimulate a discussion on opportunities for European regions and
cities to make best use of funding available from the European
Commission for Information Society (IS) related Programmes, and to
promote knowledge sharing and exchange of experiences on the current
state of IS related activities at regional and city government level
across Europe.

1st International Conference on Nano-Networks
14 September 2006 - 16 September 2006 Lausanne, SwitzerlandThis event
positions itself at the intersection of emerging nanotechnologies and
network/communication theory on the other hand. What are the new
communication paradigms that derive from the transition from micro- to
nano-scale devices? The related degrees of freedom and constraints
associated with these new technologies will change our notions about
efficient network and system design. The event will try to provide a
multidisciplinary forum for the discussion of new techniques in
modelling, design, simulation, and fabrication of network and
communication systems at the nano-scale.

Best IST Project Website Award launched (14 September 2006)The European
Commission is announcing a contest for the Best IST Project Website
Award. The winning project will receive EUR 10,000 on 23rd November 2006
at the final session of the IST 2006 Event in Helsinki (21-23rd November
2006).
The aim of the contest is to encourage IST projects to improve their
project websites. The contest is open and the Internet voting will be
done in October 2006. A jury will select three finalists amongst the
highest ranked sites.

CALL FOR TENDERS
Roadmap for application of robotics in medicine and
healthcare study
(Deadline: 20/09/2006) The overall objective of the study is to produce
a roadmap of promising applications of robotics in healthcare,
encompassing also associated technologies, research directions and
expected impact along a 15-year horizon.
The study will provide input to the Work Programme of the ICT theme in
FP7 and will also contribute towards the i2010 flagship initiative on
"caring for people in an ageing society".

EVENT ANNOUNCEMENT
7th European QIPC Workshop
13 October 2006 - 14 October 2006 London, United KingdomThis is the
annual workshop organized by the FET proactive initiative in the field
of Quantum Information Processing and Communication (QIPC). This year it
will be held in the Royal Society in London. About 200 participants are
expected from around Europe. A number of speakers and researchers are
expected from the US. This year the workshop is dedicated to quantum
information science. In addition to the scientific talks, one half day
will be devoted to the activities of the FET QIPC proactive initiative.
The coordinator Dr. Antonella Karlson will organize a special session on
the strategy and planning of the initiative and issues related to the
QIPC roadmap. The three currently active integrated projects will
present their results. There will be a kick off meeting of the
coordination action project QUROPE.
