BBC FAMILY HISTORY DAY
BBC London has just announced that it is organising a Family History Day at
the British Library on Sunday 12 February 11am-5pm.
The event builds on the success of the family history event held at TNA in
December 2005, which attracted nearly 2000 visitors. We hope that this
year’s event will attract an even greater audience, due to the more central
location of the British Library and BBC advertising of the event linked to
the new series of Who Do You Think You Are.
STALLS
London archives, local studies services and other interested organisations
are invited to host a stall at the event where they will be able to
distribute information and publications.
Space is limited, so please act quickly to reserve your stall. It may be
that organisations will be asked to share a stall – which will have the
advantage of allowing the stall holders more flexibility in their duty
sessions.
To reserve a stall please contact Penny Wrout at BBC London:

ALM London and the NCA Archives Awareness team are planning to host a stall
jointly, where we will distribute leaflets on behalf of organisations that
cannot attend. If you would like to take advantage of this, please contact
me by phone or email.
London local authority archives and local studies services may club
together to host five sub-regional stalls. These stalls would also be able
to distribute literature and information on behalf of services that cannot
attend.
PROGRAMME AND ADVERTISING
The event will include lectures and talks by genealogical experts and
historians, as well as surgeries with experts.
Attendance at the event and all the lectures and talks will be free, but by
ticket only. Bookings will be handled by the British Library booking office.
The event will be advertised by BBC London, and we hope they will
distribute some posters and leaflets for local advertising by archives and
libraries.
If you have any questions about the event, please do not hesitate to
contact me.
