A 64 year old lady with established spinal osteoporosis who has been on
oral risedronate for 2.5 years presented with pain L leg on weight
bearing . XR and isotope bone scan suggest mid femoral shaft stress
fracture. She had recently increased her excerise levels. Unusual site
for insufficiency fracture and no evidence clinically or biochemically
of other metabolic bone disease. Spinal films show no incident vert #'s
since diagnosis.
I'm reluctant to discontinue bisphosphonates - any comments from
clinical colleagues involved in this area?
Kind regards
Janet
