I always blamed using SI units for anion gaps, as I
remember a consultant saying at the time we were
changing over, (in the dim and distant past) "It will
be easier for calculating anion gaps" before I even, I
have to admit, knew what they meant. I am sure in the
critical care situation with the proliferation of
near-patient testing equipment any "gaps" in the
service can be filled.
