Subject: Studentship available

I am myself
an anthropologist, but I have an Economic and Social Research Council
studentship (paying about £14,000 per year) for a UK resident to work on a
project on rhetoric, morality and personhood in East Germany. The
studentship is described at this website:
http://www.dur.ac.uk/anthropology/postgraduate/pg_funding/de_student/
The general idea is that the student would collect a corpus of texts
(biographies, autobiographies, literary and journalistic works), collect
interviews, and conduct participant observation in East Germany, and analyse
these materials with an eye to 1) their moralising rhetoric and 2) their
accompanying ideas and practices of personhood (or, if you will, selfhood).
The successful applicant would receive training in the necessary
anthropological skills and/or German language, depending on her background.
I wonder if you could kindly publicise this through the WIGS website /
network? It could start, indeed should start, on October 1, and the funding
would last for either three or four years, depending on the background of
the candidate.
Thank you very much
Yours sincerely
