Reading Pictures: Improving Literacy Through Picture Books in Nursery and
Primary Schools
Friday 19 May 2006 : 9.30 am - 3.30 pm
St Andrew's Building, Eldon Street, Glasgow
This one day conference is aimed at all nursery and primary teachers
(including probationers) working with pupils from pre-school through levels
A-E. It may also be useful for librarians in school and public library
services.
Participants will be able to:
· extend their knowledge of picture book resources;
· reflect on the relation between text and illustration;
· consider research findings about the role of picture books in
literacy development;
· meet researchers and writers in this area.
"pictures are counterproductive only for those who have not been made
conscious of how to use them...those who know how to use pictures often find
them helpful in the process of decoding and comprehension."
