Hello Claire
These people are first aiders not health care professionals.
Firstly they are un-likely to have any great understanding of the effects
and/or contra-indications of medicine. (The first aider would not be
administering any medication anyway.)
Many people, myself included, would find it intrusive if asked if
first-aiders could be informed of the medication they have been prescribed.
The credibility of the OH service would also then be in question. With
regard to workers with diabetes, epilepsy etc. I have always recommended to
new employees or those newly diagnosed with such conditions, that they
should consider advising the first aider in their department of their
illness. I explain the benefits of them doing this should they be taken ill
in the workplace. For the obvious reasons of breaching confidentiality I
would not get involved in giving this information to first aiders myself.
Hope this helps
Anne
