Hi Rebecca (& all)

I have to disagree that there is nothing you can do at the moment with
regard to this case.

I am currently involved with a simialry situation; the employee is
extremely angry with the company and is reporting work related stress
that impacted on an underlying condition landing them in hospital.

We agreed that the company would have no direct contact with the
employee but I do have weekly contact (establised after a letter and
telephone conversation explaining my independent role) and the employee
knows I am reporting back to the company (re; timeframes for recovery
etc). My conversations with the employee are about treatment etc and I
stay away from any "he says she says" conversations.

All my reports to the company report that the employee alleges
work-related stress but that we have no confirmation as yet (when
appropriate I will refer to the OHP for this as per company policy). As
much as possible I am managing this case as I would any other absence.

Maybe you could write to the employee explaining your role and also ask
the GP to support this?

Good luck

Carr

Many thanks Frank

In the letter to the GP I have asked for him to confirm whether he has
in
fact advised the employee not to have any contact with any member of the
company. (this is what the employee is saying).
I have also asked him to advise me on the best course of action to
support
this employee.
The employee is stating that he has a grievance with a former manager,
but
until he is able to come in and deal with this I feel there is not alot
I
can do or indeed the company.

But most importantly do we need to be reporting this to the HSE, can
anyone
who may have dealt with a similar situation point me in the right
direction
of literature which will set out what I am obliged to do.

Kind regards

Rebecca Wishart

I would wait and see what the GP report says to substantiate the work
related stress diagnosis and then you may wish to consider funding
counselling if they have not already started. I suppose if the
counsellor
confirms the diagnosis then this may be the time to report it.

Will the employee not even see you? If this is the case you should
mention
this to the GP in your letter requesting that the GP discusses this with
the
employee so you can help them resolve any issues.

Good Luck

Frank

Subject: [OCC-HEALTH] Occupational Stress

Morning All,

I wonder if someone can give me some advice regarding the reporting of
Occupational Stress and to whom.

If a GP writes Occupational Stress on a sicknote, how as a company can
we
challenge that in fact it is caused by work, and secondly does it need
to
be
reported to the HSE? A friend has recommended speaking to the Safety
personnel onsite, but they are unsure of what to do also.

I may be asking a really obvious question, but want to ensure I am doing
the
right thing.

I have an employee currently signed off with Occupational Stress by his
GP,
I have obtained consent for a GP report but this employee refuses to
have
any further contact with anyone from the company, so not sure how best
to
help him.

Any advice would be gratefully accepted.

Kind regards

Rebecca Wishart
