Dear List
The following message has been sent to me personally. I feel totally
incompetent to give any advice, and would appreciate views of those of
you who are at the sharp end (excuse the pun). I apologise if the topic
has already been addressed in the past.
Hi Bashyr, hope you are well, i wonder if you could help me with an
occupational health dilemma?I am updating the policy for needle stick
injuries, and there is a section about obtaining a blood sample from an
unconscious or incapacitated donor for testing for HIV, Hep B and Hep C.
Our microbiologist says that if 2 Dr's agree to consent on the donors
behalf then blood can be taken. However she is unsure of the legalities
of this. I have referred to Diana Kloss (1998) 3rd ed page 46, but this
does not help to clarify the situation. Can you help??
Best wishes
Bashyr
