Digital North Curatorial Mentoring and Trainee Project
Opportunities for 3 emerging curators interested in media arts
'Digital North', a cross-regional Arts Council initiative is offering 3
Curatorial Traineeships for emerging curators interested in media arts.
Digital North is a consortium of organisations and individuals who are
based in one of the 3 northern Arts Council regions, (Yorkshire,
Northern and the North West) and the objective of the initiative is to
enhance media arts activity by the development of cross-regional
partnerships and networks. Site Gallery is co-ordinating the
Curatorial Traineeships and is now seeking applications from emergent
curators who would like to develop their skills, knowledge and
experience in curation, and who have a particular interest in media
arts. A fee of £2,000 is offered to each of the 3 curators together
with a research/travel budget, a professional development programme and
mentoring support. A project budget will enable the curatorial
trainees to develop a joint project that will be researched and
realised in 2006 for exhibition and tour in 2007.
To be eligible to apply applicants need to:
1)demonstrate some previous curatorial experience;
2)give example/s of work curated;
3)provide a curatorial statement;
4)give evidence of interest in new media work (the definition will
include interactive, moving image, screen-based, networked, on-line,
live/performance);
5)possess a relevant Degree or equivalent;
6)be either free-lance, part-time or other self-employment and provide
details of any relevant work permits;
7)live/work in the North of England as defined by the areas covered by
the Arts Council of England's 3 northern offices (see ACE website for
full description www.artscouncil.org.uk);
8)not be in full-time education;

1)a project proposal, on no more than one side of A4, giving a brief
description of a project you would like to research and curate; (i)
2)a curriculum vitae;
3)names of 2 referees;
4)details of contact address in the North of England, email and mobile
number;
1(i) Please note the project proposal is to give the shortlisting panel
an indication of your area of interest and approach and act as a
starting point for discussions for the proposed joint project which
will be developed by the selected curatorial team.

5pm on Friday 27 Jaunary 2006. Interviews will take place in the week
