Dear CRUMB
I have read carefully Peter Weibel's answer and all your
very interesting comments.
What I understand from all this :
1 - It is a "consumer-curated" project
BUT : "consumers" are not trusted to input interesting data
if any
=> make up some "interesting" entries to attract the
"consumers" (it reminds me of cheese to capture mice)
GOOD NEWS : artists and theoreticians material is still
considered attractive and interesting material
2 - Artists and theoreticians are not considered "consumers"
and able or willing to input
=> use a curator to select
GOOD NEWS (for curators ;-) : they are still needed (as
librarians, I guess ;-)
3 - Internet is supposed to be *very* different from the
physical space (new ways of curating)
BUT : to attract consumers just pretend other consumers
(suddenly the artists is presented as a consumer) have
contributed. It reminds me of the "letters from the readers"
in magazines and newspapers that are written by an editor to
attract "real" letters from "real" readers (= mask your
weakeness, specially if you are not sure of your concept and
"consumers")
GOOD NEWS : cyberspace is not that different from physical
space and uses the same old tricks.
