there is also something in-between 'open' and 'curated' channels, which is really a kind of associative programming. Best illustrated by last fm
http://www.last.fm/
i have to say tho that I am struggling with the idea of online linear channels, in an era where (In some countries in europe) downloading time based content is
'faster then realtime' and hard disk space is getting cheap, then i'm not sure what the role of a 'channel' is.
also, i think we will see more non-internet digital network distribution systems. many digital media devices are becoming networked, and at the very least they can
transfer huge amounts of content quickly through short cables. the short cable component may seem trivial but it really underlines the changing nature of the
'carrier' in media distribution to the point where (because of items like video ipods, iaudio players etc) people are the new carrier medium for video and audio
content. this leaves the 'channel' model literally in the new hands of a new type of programmer and distributer and the nature of programming (so central to any
notion of channeled content) under review. is your friend with 10GB of music/video you want on a portable harddrive a channel? i think so, and a pretty good one at
that.
anyways, back to the tea time tv fest (http://www.v2.nl/live)...more tests to do :)
