I like to bring your attention to two tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor positions at the
University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV), commencing Fall 2007.
Desirable candidates in any subfield of chemistry will have research interests relevant to current
directions in radiochemistry, materials chemistry, computational chemistry, and/or chemical
education. Highest priority is a position in UNLV's Radiochemistry program, in which current
research focuses on the chemistry of technetium and the actinides in solids, separations, the
environment, and chemical syntheses. Desirable materials-chemistry candidates will emphasize
experimental and/or computational research relevant to chemical sensors, nanomaterials, solar
cells, hydrogen storage, biofuels, or reactivity at defects. Experimentalists using synchrotron
radiation and theorists doing large-scale electronic-structure calculations of nanomaterials are
encouraged to apply. Desirable chemical-education candidates will focus on research in chemistry
learning and teaching at the tertiary level in at least one of the following areas: conceptual
understanding, misconceptions, problem solving, curricula for non-majors, undergraduate labs,
use of instructional technology, or the influence of culture on learning. Successful applicants will
be expected to develop a rigorous, externally funded research program that contributes to
growing graduate programs in radiochemistry, chemistry, and/or chemical education. They also
will be expected to mentor graduate and undergraduate research students, teach graduate-level
courses in their areas of expertise, teach a range of undergraduate courses, and provide service to
the department, college, university, and the profession. Further information on the Radiochemistry
and Chemistry programs can be found at radchem.nevada.edu and http://sciences.unlv.edu/
