Hi Chidi,
this is a very common problem for many services. For that reason I have
developed a module and training days in Cultural Competence for drug and
alcohol worker to help them understand possible barriers to service
uptake by people from minority ethnic groups and differences in
perceptions. The module is taking place within the BSc Substance Misuse
Studies at Thames Valley University but can also be taken as stand alone
module. The next module starts on the 9th June. Training days are also
offered at our University but we also come to services to hold training
for groups of staff and to develop strategies together how best to reach
out to people from minority ethnic groups who have drug and alcohol or
mental health problems.
If you are interested please contact me and we can discuss.
Best regards

Hi,
I am a drug and alcohol worker with substance misuse engagement
in London Borough of Greenwich, I am also link the BME link in engaging
black and ethnic minority group for them to access services round their
drug and alcohol issues. I am having problem engaging black and ethnic
minority group as they do not think they have drug and alcohol problems.
I will welcome any advice and or strategies that will be of assistance
to me.
